Things to watch: On reproductive rights around the world

I’m in Kenya for a few days, at a meeting in a hotel that has TVs in the room, so I’m catching up on my Al Jazeera. There’s a wonderful series called “Birthrights” that looks at reproductive health issues around the world. So far, there’s pieces up from Ethiopia, Vietnam and Guatemala. And get a load of this frame: “Maternal health is about more than just mothers and babies. Across the globe the very business of delivering life into the world is determined by power, politics and, all too frequently, poverty.”

I’m still slogging away at a Pulitzer Center collaboration with African journalists on covering the same issue, so this grabbed my attention. When I met an Al Jazeera reporter last night, I told him how excited I was to find so much time devoted and so much deep field reporting devoted to such an issue.

He said, “We find people are really tuning in for those kinds of programs.”
