A week or two ago, I mentioned journalist Andrew Rice's first book, The Teeth May Smile But the Heart Will Not Forget. I told you I liked it, but I had to stay mum. Waiting on the review to run and all.
Here's the review. I'm not kidding. This debut book is stunning. And I'm a hard-ass about this stuff.

OK OK I will. And the review is elegant. One question: re your byline, do you really think of yourself as reporting from *East* Africa? Sierra Leone's positively West, and Rwanda....
Good question. Well, one, I don't write (or see first) the byline, and two, most of where I was is generally labelled East Africa. Rwanda, after all, is part of the East African community. More nuanced descriptors might be "Central Africa"--though that's also problematic--or the "Great Lakes region" which pretty much gets it right. Except, of course, for Sierra Leone, which is inarguably not any of the above.:)
This looks like an amazing book, fittingly given a very well-written review. On your recommendation alone, I have added the book to the list of them I plan on reading. I hope my growning bookshelf can handle it....
