Someone just shared with me this link “Ururabo,” an old Kinyarwanda song, by a band known as Rossisendi & His Group. The link has details about the record company and the album number but nothing about the band.
Anyone know anything about this band, or old bands like it? I’m fascinated by this music. It’s so bluesy and beautiful. A few years ago, someone was playing a mix tape of this sort of thing on a public bus I took out west, but that was the only other time I heard this stuff.
I presume it’s folk music but don’t have any idea if that’s the right label. But if “bluesy old Rwandan music” makes you go, “I know a song like that,” drop me a line, will you?
this is beautiful! and I love the site it’s from. unfortunately, I have no information for you. I am hoping, however, that someone will and I’ll get to learn more about it as well. Have you tried asking Sean Jacobs on Africa is a Country?

Howdy Jina,
I see over at KenTanza Vinyl (http://www.kentanzavinyl.com/Site/HOME_PAGE.html) that Rossisendi & His Group released two other singles on the Pathé label:
PEA 225 Rossisendi and His Group Confessin’ Love (I Swear Baby) / Confessin’ Love (Nina Kuomba)
PEA 226 Rossisendi and His Group Sometimes Love is Funny / Ururabo
PEA 227 Rossisendi and His Group Urukundo Ngufitiye / Usa Na Bike
But that’s all I have been able to find.
Cheers.
Stuart
This is super, thanks!!
Have you tried http://www.inyarwanda.com? Most of the stuff up there is new, but there’s some golden oldies too.
